Abstract:
Residural, completely and strongly weatherd granite and mixed rock layers are distributed in large areas all over China. This kind of stratum is characterized by poor self-stability and is dense and high in bearing capacity before being disturbed, but gets weakened quickly, softening and crumbling after having been disturbed; meanwhile, there is a “spherical weathering body” in part of the eluvium. As these issues have a great effect on metro and municipal works, special treatment measures should be taken. This paper discusses an analysis of the physical and mechanical characteristics of granite and mixed rock eluvium, and a description is given regarding the effects of this geology on metro and municipal works. Additionally, detailed treatment measures are given for works constructed by different methods.
