Abstract:
The running tunnel section between the Huasu station and the Xianlin Eastern Station of the Nanjing Metro line 4 passes through a brecciated limestone stratum that is characterized by many karst caves of various sizes. By analyzing the formation lithology, geological structures, hydrodynamic zoning of the underground water, and geographic and geomorphic conditions, the law of karst development in this area was determined. In light of the characteristics of karst development in this area, an analysis of the mechanisms of geological disasters commonly induced by tunneling in karst areas, such as water bursting, mud bursting, and ground collapsing, was conducted by considering the key geological factors of tunnel surrounding rocks, geological defaults, and groundwater. Further preventative countermeasures were taken to assure construction and operation safety.
