Abstract  Of late, rare papers have been published for the analysis and evaluation of the seismic safety of tunnels in regions of high seismic intensity. Taking Huangcaoping No.2 Tunnel on 318 State Highway as the background, seismic safety analysis on the portal section was carried out with respect to slope, building, lining and rock mass by means of numerical simulation analysis and vibration table model test. Meanwhile corresponding aseismic countermeasures were put forward for various parts, and overall seismic safety evaluation was conducted. Results indicated that the portal section will be safe under the designed earthquake.
