Abstract The Tongluoshan Tunnel on the Nanchong-Chongqing expressway passes through a coal goaf, and a large fault zone with complex geological conditions in which coal and gas outbursts and water inflow are likely to occur. Thus the TRT6000 geological prediction system using the 3-dimensional spatial reflection tomography technique was employed in the construction of the Tongluoshan tunnel to ensure the safety of tunnel construction. This system makes it possible to obtain information about underground water located far away from the working face and provides the technical support for the owner to make design alterations.
