Abstract The cutter head of a mix-shield directly contacts the soil during excavation. The arrangement pattern of the cutters has a direct impact on machine performance and construction cost. Based on the basic principles of cutter arrangement, this paper proposes a mode of spacing disc cutters, analyzes the cutter quantity in each track of a different radius under the equal-wear principle of cutters, discusses the helical curve arrangement method of different cutters, and verifies the rationality of the cutter arrangement method using a case study.
