Abstract Based on the diversion tunnel of the Baishujiang grade III power station underneath the Shoubayan tunnel on the Neijiang-Kunming Railway in Yanjin county of Yunnan province, the influence of a water tunnel on the seismic effect in the existing tunnel was studied by the LS-DYNA procedure. The results show that under the action of a seismic wave in a single direction, the maximum response direction in terms of vibration velocity and acceleration is in accordance with that of loading; under the simultaneous action of seismic waves in three directions, the maximum response occurred at the sidewall of the existing tunnel; and after the completion of the new water tunnel, the vibration velocity, acceleration, and stress of the existing tunnel structure decrease in different extents, improving the seismic response at the cross section.
