Abstract Based on monitored site deformations during upper and lower bench construction of the Duimenpo multiple-arch tunnel, an unequal time-interval grey predicting model was used to forecast the deformation tendency of the surrounding rock. The predicted results were compared with those obtained by an exponential model and a hyperbolic model. It was found that the predictions were accurate.
