Abstract The Xi'an Metro line 4 is the vertical trunk of the Xi'an rail transit network and passes through 14 active ground fissures. In order to perform further research on ground fissures and provide a scientific basis for preventing and reducing the hazards along the Xi'an Metro line 4, this article focuses on identifying the development characteristics of the 14 ground fissures along the Xi'an Metro line 4 through geological environment and geological hazard surveys, and by analyzing and summarizing the activities of the ground fissures based on surveying results obtained in recent years in order to predict their future activity. The zone of this metro affected by ground fissures was determined by quantitative calculation. Meanwhile, the risk level at the intersection of the fissure and the metro line was determined by analyzing the risk characteristics along the metro. Finally, the ground fissures along the Xi'an Metro line 4 were classified into level Ⅰ, level Ⅱ, and level Ⅲ fissures. The ground fissures are major geological hazards in Xi'an, and this should be taken into consideration during construction of the metro.
