Abstract In light of the low efficiency of advance curtain grouting in water-rich tunnels, this paper systematically sums up the factors involved in the optimization and improvement of drilling equipment, the selection of grouting materials, and the development and utilization of the two-channel grouter—all of which are affecting the speed of advance curtain grouting in the construction of the Jiaozhou Bay Subsea Tunnel, located in a water-rich fault fracture zone. The results obtained by using this technique were significant and included a dense filling in cracks, maintained integrity of the surrounding rock, and better strength and density.
