Abstract  The issues faced by tunnelling projects are very complex and characterized by high uncertainty and risk. In order to reduce risk and ensure safety during tunnel construction, an informational early warning platform for tunnel construction was developed, the functions of which include the automatic collection of information, dynamic risk management, and analysis and early warning as well as a dynamic virtualization of tunnel construction. Based on the construction of the Nancun tunnel on the 108 National Highway—which was characterized by a shallow overburden, large span, and passage through a coal stratum—a series of studies on information technology were carried out. The results show that an informational early warning platform can substantially improve the anti-risk capability of tunnelling under complex conditions.
