Abstract: It is necessary to set shaft and inclined shaft for the highway tunnels being longer than 7 km to meet ven? tilation requirements. In light of a research on the ventilation methods for the existing highway tunnels more than 7km long, it is found that there are some problems for the setting of shaft and inclined shaft. Taking the Xianrendong tunnel for example, the basic ideas and method for the design of shaft and inclined shaft of the extra-long highway tunnel are proposed.
