Abstract: The consequences of fire accidents in highway tunnels can be extremely destructive and dangerous. This paper takes the data from investigations of major fire accidents in highway tunnels in Europe, Japan, and China and analyzes the causes, characteristics, distribution, and types of fire accidents. Additionally, the relative experiences and lessons of fire prevention are summarized.
