Abstract The posture problem of the shield machine during tunnelling might affect the tunnel construction quali? ty. In this paper, the posture parameters of shield machine were expounded, and the designed tunnel axis was divided into horizontal alignment and vertical alignment. Through an analysis of the effect of shield tail gap, articulated device, and stroke difference of thrust cylinders on the minimum radius of deviation correction curve, the range of minimum deviation correction radius was obtained. Based on the Winkel foundation model, the relation between deviation correction moment and the minimum radius of deviation correction curve was derived. Based on a research of existing deviation correction curves, an optimized deviation correction curve model of horizontal alignment was put forward. The simulation results show the deviation correction curve meets the requirement, and the obtained variation curve of deviation correction moment based on changes of curvature radius of deviation correction curve accords with the law of thrust changes of hydraulic cylinders during practical deviation correcting.
