Abstract Inclined shaft with trackless transport mode is widely applied in the railway, highway, hydraulic engi? neering and mines attributed to the advantages of high efficiency, low input and easy maintenance, but a unified standard for the design parameters of longitudinal gradient and inner contour of inclined shaft is not available at present time. By reference to the design regulations on gradient and inner contour of inclined shaft adopted in different industries, the maximum gradient and basic inner contour dimensions of inclined shaft with trackless transport in railway tunnelling are proposed by theoretic calculation and formula derivation, and the design principles of clear width and clear height as well as the interval of passing bay and flat slope section are determined for the inclined shaft with trackless transportation.
