Research on Ground Deformation Induced by Pipe Jacking Construction in Sandy Gravel Stratum

Abstract This paper discusses the deformation of ground surface induced by pipe jacking construction in sandy gravel stratum. Based on the existing theoretical calculation methods of deformation in granular soil, theoretical calculation and analysis of ground deformation in sandy gravel stratum induced by pipe jacking construction in an electric power tunnel are conducted; the rules of ground deformation induced by pipe jacking construction in sandy gravel stratum are obtained through theoretical analysis and field monitoring; a formula for calculating the width coefficient of settlement trough induced by pipe jacking construction in sandy gravel stratum is put forward by using the programming solver based on the existing theory and monitoring data. The results show that ground loss is the main factor causing ground settlement and the dynamic changes of ground loss during pipe jacking must be considered in settlement calculation; the proposed formula can be used to calculate the ground settlement induced by pipe jacking construction in sandy gravel stratum.
