Abstract Displacement of overlying stratum induced by tunnelling will result in damage to adjacent buildings. In light of the fact that Peck formula can only describe ground settlement, and according to the random medium theory, the displacement field of overlying stratum induced by tunnelling is predicted by using diffusion?convection model.Combined with the criteria for classification of building damages caused by differential settlements and tension cracks, the evaluation of adjacent building damages caused by tunnel excavation considering foundation buried depth is realized. By way of practical engineering cases, the influence of foundation buried depth on building damage is discussed, and it shows the evaluation results considering foundation buried depth are consistent with the actual results, verifying the rationality of considering foundation buried depth in evaluation of adjacent building damage.
