Abstract  There are no full understanding and adequate preparations for gas hazards before tunnel construction in non-coal strata zones, and the gas emission is of random and non-uniform character, so the hazards will be large in such gas tunnels, and it is important to study the gas formation mechanism. Based on the study of many gas tunnels, the paper sums up three genetic types of gas tunnels in non-coal strata, i.e. structural connectivity type, metamorphic rock type and compound type, with the first type further divided into fracture connectivity type, fault connectivity type and fold connectivity type according to different structure types.
