Abstract Construction features, classification of gas tunnels and the harzards caused by gases are presented by taking Meilingguan tunnel as an example. In addition, gas prediction, inspecting and monitoring, ventilation, allocation of equipment and power supply are analyzed. It is concluded that the key to safe construction of gas tunnels is the combination of human factors and physical factors to effectively control gas accidents.
