Abstract  Characteristics of the settlement of the Qiantang River embankment caused by a large-diameter slurry shield tunnel under-crossing were quite different from those of surface settlements caused by routine shield tunneling. A large number of settlement observations were carried out during and after the Hangzhou Qingchun Road river-crossing tunnel passed under the southern embankment. Characteristics of the settlement of the southern embankment were analyzed in three aspects, including the history of past settlement, settlement percentages of various construction stages, and the features of settlement troughs.
