Abstract The reinforcement of shotcrete with steel struts is simulated using the equivalent method of reinforcement bars, and a calculation for the safety factor of the primary support and secondary lining is derived based on the formula for concrete reinforcement bar given in "Manual of Railway Engineering Design-tunnel." The ultimate bearing capacities under different support parameters are calculated. Support parameters are selected by taking the actual condition of the Karst section of a tunnel into consideration.
