Effects of a Foundation Pit on Adjacent Subway Tunnels and Control Measures

Abstract With the rapid growth of city construction, the development of underground space near subway tunnels is becoming more and more popular. Excavation and dewatering of foundation pits has certain effects on adjacent subway tunnels. This paper analyzes the influence mechanism using mechanics principles and addresses control measures for reducing the effects of foundation pits on adjacent subway tunnels from the two aspects of design and construction. Finally, it verifies the validity of the proposed control measures using the three-dimensional finite element method for a specific project.
