Abstract In some cases, it is not practical for a shield machine to pass directly through certain materials because of geometry, randomness of location, and strength of boulders. Based on previous geophysical prospecting and drilling, an analysis of the drilling parameters and the blasting scheme was performed to established a design. Based on blast vibration monitoring in an adjacent tunnel and blasting coring, this paper summarizes the construction method of pretreatment for boulder blasting in a shield-driven tunnel under the sea, and offers some rationalized proposals.
