Abstract Metro engineering requires a great variety of geotechnical parameters, which can be obtained either from laboratory tests or in-situ tests. Using the geotechnical investigation of lot B of line 2 of the Xi'an Rapid Urban Mass Transit as an example, this article not only summarizes the general characteristics of geotechnical engineering and relevant statistics about geotechnical parameters of lot B, which serves as essential evidence for the structural design and the dewatering design, but also provides a reference for the Xi'an metro engineering exploration methodologically. Meanwhile, these geotechnical engineering characteristics and parameters can also be used as a reference for the geotechnical design of similar sites in Xi'an.
