Abstract  Because of the great potential for safety hazards in gas-rich tunnels, explosion-proof modifications should be carried out for the construction machinery and vehicles used in these cases. Currently, there are no technical standards or regulations concerning explosion-proof modifications in the highway industry, so the relevant standards are referenced from other industries. Using the Huayingshan tunnel of the Nanchong-Dazhu-Liangping expressway as an example, this paper elaborates upon the technical status of explosion-proof modifications of construction machinery and vehicles, and it introduces the modification plan, main refitted systems, and practical application in detail.
