Abstract  It is very common for tunnels to pass under existing metros during their construction, and this is significant in terms of safety risk evaluations, track protection, construction parameter control, and precise monitoring. Based on the shield construction of the South Trunk Canal of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project passing under the existing Beijing Metro line 4, the technical preparation program and construction measures such as controlling the soil pressure, determining the advance rate, implementing the simultaneous grouting and secondary grouting, adjusting the excavation parameters, and strengthening the monitoring are introduced.
