Abstract Monitoring, measurement, and advance geological prediction for highway tunnel construction are the important means to ensure safe construction, stability of surrounding rocks, economy of supports, reliability of quality, and dynamic design and construction. This paper elaborates the current status of these techniques and analyzes the existing problems in the implementation process, including unqualified staff, imperfect instrumentation, poor supervision, and a lack of coordination among the testing, design, and construction parties. To solve these problems, some relevant measures and suggestions are put forward.
