Abstract The paper introduces the flat roof and straight wall tunnels under-passing express way with super-shallow overburdens of 0.5~2.5m constructed by mining method. Advance pipe-roofing support, small pipe grouting, multi-headings and short-bench excavation were taken in the construction to control surface settlements of pavement and to ensure the normal traffic of the expressway.
