Abstract  Based on the cross passage project between running tunnels from Fanhan Station to Hankou Railway Station in Wuhan area, the paper studied the key freezing techniques for the cross passage in aquifer. By means of ANSYS and three-dimensional model, the effect of frost swelling on frozen soil mass during the freezing under confined water condition was analyzed. The impact of the mining bored tunnels and a pumping station on frozen soil curtain was also studied. Results showed that the force-bearing capacity of frozen soil curtain was safe both in freezing process and excavation.
