Abstract The water-sand gushing risk is usually encountered in shield lauching for the greater depth tunnel crossing the river. A new technology which takes reinforced concrete box as auxillary measures in shield launching is introduced: 1) shield assembling in the shaft, 2) reinforced box constructing around the shield, 3) clay filling in the gap between the shield and box, 4) shield launching 5) Back-filled grouting.
