Abstract Based on the No.2 ventilation shaft of the Jiaozhou Bay Subsea tunnel, the characteristics, scope and the extent of the effects of construction at the intersections of clustered excavations and key sections adjacent to the tunnel are obtained by means of the analysis and numerical simulation of various cases using FLAC3D. Additionally, the rational construction methods and key reinforcement scope are determined. By adopting the measures of smooth blasting and support reinforcement, the safety and quality of the construction of clustered excavations are guaranteed.
