Abstract Horizontal grouting reinforcement is the main method for the tunnel with buried depth over 40 m in soft surrounding rocks, but it has a great influence on construction organization in the tunnel. Based on the Daling tunnel of Meizhou-Shantou railway, the advantages and disadvantages of the grouting reinforcement schemes from ground surface and in the tunnel are compared, and an experimental study on the technology of surface deep-hole grouting reinforcement is carried out. The results show that the clear grout vein and good grout splitting effect as well as stable work face are obtained by using grouting technology of pressure-bearing steel sleeve valve tube to reinforce the deep-buried completely weathered and water-rich granite stratum, creating conditions for large-section tunnel excavation and realizing monthly advance rate of 70 m in the surrounding rocks of grade V.
