Abstract  Based on the construction practices used for the Zengjiading Tunnel on the Yong-Ning Expressway, which is characterized by parallel tunnels separated by a thin pillar, this article introduces: the three-bench excavation method with core soil reserved for surrounding rock of grade V, the bench construction method, the smooth controlled blasting technique and the shared rock reinforcing technique for surrounding rock of grade Ⅳ. It also explores the displacement and deformation features of the ground and the practicality of excavation and supporting methods through numerical simulation and monitoring of the surface settlement of the shallow-buried section. This article provides valuable background for the design and construction of similar projects and further studies.
