Abstract This paper introduces the option selection regarding the structure type and construction methods of the Gongbei tunnel, the key project at the Zhuhai link of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Based on the project investigation and design experience, the shallow mined method combined with an enclosed pipe-roof is recommended. This paper analyzes the key points and potential difficulties of design and construction of the pipe-roof as well as the relevant countermeasures.
