Abstract Squeezing deformation is one of the difficulties encountered in soft rock tunnels with high ground stress, and this subject has obtained much attention in the field of tunneling both at home and abroad. Based on the field tests and engineering verification performed for the soft rock tunnel on the Lanzhou-Chongqing railway, this paper analyzes the relevant characteristics of engineering geology, crustal stress, deformation, support pressure, stress, and support damage. Specific measures for design and construction are put forward.
