Abstract The construction of the double-track Liangshui Tunnel passing through the phyllite strata of the Silurian system was risky and difficult since deformation occurred at several places and the primary support invaded the clearance. Some measures taken to address these issues included parameter adjustment, larger deformation allowance, self-drilling long anchoring, and micro-bench construction technology. This paper analyzes the features and deformation characteristics of the rock with high ground stress around the Liangshui tunnel.
