Abstract:
In order to investigate the infrared radiation temperature characteristics of jointed rock masses with different orientations under action of disc cutters, a series of indentation tests are conducted on jointed rock mass with two cutters. The granite block is adopted in the experiment, the joint gap is filled with cement mortar to simulate jointed rock mass, and the jointed orientations of rock samples are set as 0, 30, 45, 60 and 90 degree, respectively. The deformation and infrared radiation temperature of rock surface are measured by digital image correlation system and thermal imager during experiment. The experimental results show it has a good correlation for the characteristics of infrared temperature and fracture of rock mass in compaction stage, elastic stage, plastic stage, failure stage and post failure stage; the joint orientation could change the relative magnitude of tensile stress and shear stress along the trajectory of median cracks, so the thermoelastic effect and frictional heat effect are changed, resulting in different in?
frared radiation temperatures in the median crack area; the failure moments and positions of jointed rock mass can be
determined by differential thermograms, and the infrared radiation abnormity area in the differential thermograms is
deemed as the sign of rock failure.
