Abstract  A reasonable construction scheme is the foundation of safe and smooth construction during the construction of an intersection of an inclined shaft and the main tunnel. Different methods for intersecting the inclined shaft and main tunnel are addressed with respect to surrounding rock of various classes. For surrounding rock of classes II and III, a full-face excavation should be implemented to enter directly into the main tunnel. For surrounding rock of classes IV and V, the pilot tunnel method should be used with a circular curve to construct the main tunnel after reaching the boundary of the inclined shaft and main tunnel.
