Abstract Using a tunnel on the Beijing Metro line 7 as an example, this paper predicts the surface settlement induced by tunnel excavation underneath the existing metro station using empirical methods, analytical methods, and numerical simulation. Soil reinforcement by means of deep-hole grouting and small pipe grouting was adopted where the tunnel passes under the existing metro station, which controls the surface settlement and ensures traffic safety within the existing station.
