Abstract BIM technology is characterized by visualization, simulation and optimization, which can solve problems like design errors and disordered construction management. The application cases of BIM technology in domestic tunnelling are summarized, and the application statuses of BIM technology in the three stages of tunnel design, construction and operation and maintenance are expounded. In the design stage, BIM technology can assist related personnel to carry out applications like 3D visualization model establishment, works quantity statistics, collision check and stability analysis; in the construction stage, BIM technology can assist relevant personnel to carry out visual technical clarification, optimization of construction method and process plan as well as construction management; in the operation and maintenance stage, BIM technology can assist relevant personnel to manage tunnel equipment and tunnel maintenance digitally, which helps relevant personnel to respond to sudden safety incidents.
