Abstract The literatures and case reports of shield construction are utilized to design a shield construction assistant decision-making system based on the knowledge graph for the purpose of guiding engineering and technical personnel to make shield construction decisions. On the basis that a standard lexicon of shield construction is created, the knowledge graph ontology architecture of shield construction is proposed. The Chinese word segmentation model method combining BiLSTM and rules is employed to semi-automatically extract engineering case knowledge derived from papers and special reports and construct the extensible shield construction knowledge graphs. On this basis, a recommended algorithm for shield construction decision making is designed and developed according to the subgraph similarity characteristics of knowledge graph node weights to offer solutions and reference schemes for actual problems encountered during shield tunnel construction and ensure successful construction.
