Abstract The domestic research achievements for tunnels in high-altitude and severe cold region is not so rich that can't meet the requirement of tunnel design. Taking the research findings of house building industry in China and National Railway in Japan for reference, the design calculation methods of portal insulation length, lining heat preservation and ditch heat preservation appropriate for tunnels in seasonal frozen ground are put forward.
