Abstract Considering gradual freezing and water infiltration of surrounding rock, this essay discusses the influence of the frost heave process and the thawing process on the lining structure, concrete spraying for primary support, and the strength of surrounding rock. According to the current standard of tunnel construction, the pressure applied to the lining caused by water frost heaving and surrounding rock frost heaving is not big and need not be considered in the design process, while the damage to the sprayed concrete for primary support due to repeated freezing and thawing is significant. For tunnels in cold regions, attention should be given to the prevention of frost caused by water seepage.
