Abstract The construction of hydraulic tunnels can occur near existing pipelines, and it is very important to ensure the safety of these existing pipelines. Using the hydraulic tunnel at the Southern Main Canal of the South-North Water Transfer Project as an example, a 3D numerical simulation was carried out and the stress deformation law and stability of the pipeline were studied. The results show that the hydraulic tunnel construction has little impact on the stress and deformation of the pipelines.
