Abstract An existing abutment pile foundation is affected by the Shanghai metro line 11 and needs to be removed. Schemes of pile foundation removal with casing pipe and water pressure and retaining structure reconstruction with type L retaining structure and mixing pile were chosen. The computation of displacement during reconstruction was performed by numerical simulation software and the results indicate that the type L retaining structure can restrain the soil settlement at the back wall and there is little displacement of the retaining structure, meeting the requirements of engineering safety and environmental protection.
