Abstract In order to determine the structural reliability of the Maijishan extra-long mountain highway tunnel and to discover the main factors affecting its structural reliability, PFEM, Latin hypercube MC, sensitivity analysis, and other methods were used to analyze the reliability of the lining based on the continuous medium model. Calculations showed that the reliability index of the lining structure for the right line of the Maijishan tunnel is 3.8 and the structure has a low probability of failure. A site test also showed that supporting with the lining structure is safe. It is concluded that the reliability of a lining structure can be fully indicated by combining the reliability theory of structural engineering with features of the lining structure, quantitative calculation, qualitative analysis, site tests and theoretical calculations. A sensitivity analysis of reliability can help determine the main random variable affecting the reliability as well as reasonable measures to improve structure reliability accordingly.
