Abstract The construction methods of side drift, CD or double side drift are often adopted for the super-large sec? tion metro station, and the construction procedures are complex and construction technique is challenging due to excavation of many pilot tunnels. An optimization was conducted for the mined construction method taken in the largesection metro station considering the actual geological conditions based on the Liuhualu station of Guangzhou metro line 11, and the safety and reliability of the optimized construction method were calculated and analyzed by MidasGTS. The results show this optimized construction method is favorable for reducing construction period, the structural settlement and heaving both meet relevant requirements, and the construction safety and structural reliability can be guaranteed; site monitoring should be strengthened, primary support should be taken in time and secondary lining should be carried out at proper time.
