Abstract  Tunnel structures should satisfy the requirements for structural safety, adaptability, and durability for the design working life. Currently, the method of durability design of tunnel structures is not perfect. Durability of tunnel structures can not just be designed in accordance with the structural requirements for the quality of materials and thickness of the structure-it should also be supported by consideration of alternative design ideas, taking into account environmental influences on the durability of the tunnel structure as well as the structural safety of the design. This paper analyzes and discusses several issues regarding structural design of composite tunnel linings incorporating the durability of the tunnel structure and offers some concrete solutions.
