Abstract The ground settlements in a pipe-roof tunnel are induced by the construction process and tunnel excavation. This paper studies the laws of ground settlements caused by the construction of a large pipe-roof tunnel based on site measurements and theoretical analysis using the Gaoqi Tunnel under the existing highway in Xiamen as an example. The results show that ground settlements caused by the construction of a large pipe-roof can be effectively predicted by the calculations.
