Abstract The geological forecast method-which integrates geological recording, mapping and various explorations, and combines long and short measuring, qualitative analysis and quantitative data collection-was applied to the Qinyunshang Tunnel. The forecast accuracy was improved regarding tunnel crossing of a complex fault, squeeze fractures and the unfavorable geological condition of water inflow. This method allows for corrections of the geological documents from the survey and design phases, effectively controls construction risks and optimizes the corresponding construction measures.
