Abstract:
This paper discusses the impacts of the unit weight of water on the calculation and control of buoyancy force in the design, construction, and operation of immersed tunnels, especially regarding the impacts on tunnel element floating and immersion. The variation of the unit weight of water should be monitored with consideration to the requirements of various construction cases. It is suggested that a covered water sampler should be used for underwater sampling, and the unit weight of water should be determined by the Archimedes principle. Finally, the application of this method in the immersion of the Haihe River Immersed Tunnel in Tianjin is presented.
